This is what holds me from starting to study (I'm a musician too): It's never finished and you know you'll never be satisfied anyway. So it't easier to do al this other stuff that's maybe less important, but easier to complete: financial administration, household things, answering e-mails etc. etc. Speaking for myself, I think I should lower my expectations and just start to do something, no matter the outcome. Kind of the same you say today...
Good luck!
R.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3249322133582589653.post-62114768640449563892010-03-01T23:20:11.114-05:002010-03-01T23:20:11.114-05:00Hi D. It's interesting to me how much of our self-discovery as adults is about getting back to what we knew instinctively as children before we started getting in our own way. In my voice teaching I find so much of the work I do is un-doing bad habits a singer has developed because they were *trying* to make something happen instead of just *letting* it happen.

Thank you for your comments, and best of luck on your own happiness project!

-NatalieNataliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15801084365302250800noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3249322133582589653.post-64091674162258607352010-02-28T16:38:20.016-05:002010-02-28T16:38:20.016-05:00Thanks for this! One comment about contradictory voices: I have noticed that for most people, there is a reliable context in which the "true" voice is most clearly heard. For me, my yoga practice is the place where I can most clearly access my most heart-felt desires. Others have told me they do their best thinking while exercising, meditating/praying, spending time in nature, driving (that one worries me a bit!), etc. If you put yourself in the right context, you might find that one voice consistently drowns out the others. And I absolutely agree with your advice to take action...if you start to go down a path that the true voice doesn't like, the yelling intensifies!Janet Civitellihttp://www.vocationvillage.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3249322133582589653.post-40863334604690577452010-02-28T11:06:56.609-05:002010-02-28T11:06:56.609-05:00I know deep down when I'm lying to myself and ...I know deep down when I'm lying to myself and I'm tired, burnt out, and just need a BIG glass of wine and the boob tube, aaaand when I'm just being a little brat. You're doing what makes you happy for YOUR happiness. So if what makes you happy is that glass of wine and tv, do it! If you're writing when you don't want to, it probably won't be your best or most satisfying piece. It might be just me, but maybe it's better to write when your creativity and the moment strikes you? If months from now you're still on the couch, I might have to write you a strongly worded letter, but I somehow don't think that's going to happen :-)Kaira Klueberhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09058586675616986150noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3249322133582589653.post-68386263933631285152010-02-28T09:52:54.859-05:002010-02-28T09:52:54.859-05:00Hi Natalie!

In reading about your experience of looking forward vs. looking back - especially as it pertains to a divorce - I so relate! I am divorced too - - it was final over a year ago. I, too, work with a therapist and much of my focus is 'moving on', and I like the idea of unpacking the past and looking at it as part of a path of moving forward. I have a box of photos, many of them from my marriage and the early days of my son's life. The box has been unopened for years . . . maybe it's time for me to go through it. I look forward to following your journey on here!
-TracyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3249322133582589653.post-85173100446448167332010-02-28T05:15:08.726-05:002010-02-28T05:15:08.726-05:00Left to our own devices, I wonder if we would choo...Left to our own devices, I wonder if we would choose to do the things that make us happy. Small children in their self-centred worlds know exactly what makes them happy. We all seem to go through a period of not really knowing what we want but asking ourselves what do others expect of us or what should I be asking for? It's only when we catch ourselves unhappy that we start to openly question what our inner self really aches for. I suspect that left to our own devices we would seek out the happy place, I just hope we have the strength it takes to be that self-centred. My own happiness project encourages me to connect more with my authentic self, your post has given me more questions to help me on my quest, many thanks xxxHeather Bestelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11617945225320285553noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3249322133582589653.post-91116799956949683862010-02-28T01:59:50.195-05:002010-02-28T01:59:50.195-05:00What a great place to BE in to actually HAVE TWO p...What a great place to BE in to actually HAVE TWO plays to submit!
